Tien Ma’s and Figaro Coffee Offer Online Delivery! 5 Reasons to Order Now

It has been two months since the start of the community quarantine in Metro Manila. I’ve been out of our house only once to attend an important strategy meeting in the office. The rest of the days, we’re stuck at home to stay safe so we’re now more accustomed to ordering our pantry essentials, supplements, beauty products, home essentials, and food online.

For meals, my go-to apps are usually GrabFood and Foodpanda. I’ve browsed through their lists of restaurants, shops, and cafes so many times that I already know which ones are new, which ones promote deals and discounts, and which ones are still closed. πŸ™‚ But… life’s too short to be bored!

The good news is that The Figaro Group accepts orders for next-day delivery and even same day delivery! To us, this means more food options to choose from. Here below are five reasons to get your cravings satisfied with delicious meals delivered straight to your doorstep!

Tien Ma’s and Figaro Coffee Offer Online Delivery! 5 Reasons to Order Now

    1. Affordable gourmet meals are just a click away!

Despite being only at home, we’re super busy doing work so there’s really no time for me to learn new recipes, cook, and prepare decent meals. Luckily, The Figaro Group has Gourmet Mealboxes that are priced only at β‚±100 each.

Get Pork Teriyaki, Breaded Chicken Karekare, Pork Sisig, Roasted Pork, Chicken Arroz ala Cubana, and Stir-Fried Chicken at reasonable and excellent value. Everybody loves these familiar comfort food, and it couldn’t be easier to enjoy them in the comfort of your home. These ready-to-eat gourmet meals can be stored for a few days. Place them inside the freezer or refrigerator, and just heat them up before eating.

    5. Get food delivered even after the ECQ.

Many of us are missing the experience of dining inside a restaurant. I know I do. Unfortunately, it will take us a long time before things get back to “normal.” To recreate this experience somehow, restaurants that have launched delivery services with nicely packed meals like the Figaro Group help us survive the journey. Hopefully, they can expand their online menu soon. I’m dreaming of Tien Ma’s hakaw and xiao long bao! ❀

Review of Delicious Diet PH (5-Day Program and Food Delivery)

These days, diet food deliveries aren’t so unique anymore. We’ve got a lot to choose from, even those that started with the intent to only feed a small circle of friends or officemates. Delicious Diet (DD) is one of the most popular diet food programs in the Philippines with quality menus. Jeff of Delicious Diet Support contacted me to try their service and share what I can say about it.

The verdict? I think they deserve the credit of their name. Although there were some misses in terms of flavor, DD’s food generally tasted fine considering that they’re 1200-calorie diet meals. Their claims, “downright healthy,” “definitely balanced,” and “delightfully convenient,” are quite believable, too. Here’s the menu I got for Delicious Diet’s food planΒ  last week (May 18-22, 2015):

Review of Delicious Diet PH (5-Day Program and Food Delivery)

    Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Confirmation of order was done via SMS. I simply provided my name, email address, delivery address, and preference of delivery time (morning or evening). For morning deliveries, the sender is expected to arrive at 5:30AM-9:30AM for same-day consumption; for evening deliveries, expected delivery time is 5:00PM-9:30PM on the day before consumption. “Evening” sounded better for me since I leave the house at around 8AM, and Delicious Diet cannot guarantee a specific time within the given time range in the morning. Thankfully, all diet deliveries were sent on time as promised.

Delicious Diet menus are posted on their Facebook page a week before so you get to see the list of food you’ll munch for next week’s subscription. As eating right can be tricky, it’s good that they show a meal plan to plant seeds of expectation in your mind.

    Food: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

Delicious Diet’s five-day meal program proves that “diet foods” don’t have to be tasteless. While there were some that I didn’t like (particularly the pasta in salsa rossa sauce, which was more like a punchline to a bad pasta joke, and the minced meat in lettuce cups, which didn’t taste fresh and was meh at best), the rest kept me full and satisfied. Ingredients used did not taste artificial, including snacks, and that’s a good sign that the food was well-made. Genuinely delicious for me were those marked with asterisks (see below). πŸ™‚

    Monday

    • Breakfast: Baked pork, breakfast bun*
    • Lunch: Chicken inasal, native vegetables, organic rice
    • Snack: Banana fritters with coco sugar-cinnamon sprinkle*
    • Dinner: Beef in peanut sauce, garlic kangkong, organic rice

    Tuesday

    • Breakfast: Florentine hash skillet
    • Lunch: Minced meat in lettuce cups, organic rice
    • Snack: Veggie sticks, hummus
    • Dinner: General Tso’s chicken

    Wednesday

    • Breakfast: Open-faced sloppy Joe
    • Lunch: Chicken divan, organic rice
    • Snack: Baked pastry and tea
    • Dinner: Fish in soy-ginger sauce, organic rice*

    Thursday

    • Breakfast: Tuna omelet*
    • Lunch: White adobo, organic rice
    • Snack: Melba toasts, mushroom dip
    • Dinner: Pasta in salsa rossa sauce

    Friday

    • Breakfast: Grilled vegetable sandwich in whole wheat ciabatta*
    • Lunch: Pork tenderloin in spinach pesto sauce, organic rice*
    • Snack: Baked pastry and tea
    • Dinner: Grilled salmon, organic rice*

To most, 1200 calories is little and may not be enough to sustain energy or keep the stomach full for the day. But what matters more is eating enough of the right kind of food and staying away of those with “empty calories” or food without nutrients. Delicious Diet meals seem to be balanced with vegetables, meat, fish, and some sweets. Ultimately, portion control with careful distribution of calories throughout the day is key.

    Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

Delicious Diet must be praised for being one of the top diet meals in the Philippines that design a system to help people change eating habits for good. PhP 1800 for five days (regular set) is not totally cheap, however it’s also not the most expensive either. Provided were real food that’s well thought out and not those goods just straight out of the can. Taste was okay and service was great. With these reasons, I say the price for value is reasonable.

Without an added delivery cost, Delicious Diet delivers to: Makati, Fort, Mckinley, Otis, Rockwell, Pioneer, Mandaluyong, Eastwood, Libis, Marcos Highway, Cubao, Marikina, Pasig, White Plains, Katipunan, Xavierville, Kamias, Anonas, Teacher’s Village, Tomas Morato, Tandang Sora, Fairview, Commonwealth, Congressional, Banawe, Sampaloc, Paco, Taft, and Pasay. For South Deliveries, delivery fee is PhP 100.

Delicious Diet is recommended for those who are too busy to cook meals every day and for those who can spare a few expense to drop pounds effectively. Since I am not really up to losing weight, I’m not the best person to ask when it comes to this matter. πŸ™‚ For reviews and testimonials related to weight loss with the help of Delicious Diet, visit their Facebook page. You’ll surely find a lot there!

  • Review of Dadding’s Kitchenette – Special Inihaw (Comembo, Makati City)

Review of Dadding’s Kitchenette – Special Inihaw (Comembo, Makati City)

Quality home-cooked style of food exists, and it’s here with Dadding’s Kitchenette. Opened last October 2014, this food establishment in Makati is the obvious move for your Filipino comfort food fix. Dadding’s cooks up delicious meals that pay homage to the owner’s culinary heritage in Pagsanjan province as well as his own craft. It has the formula down: food rich in flavor + authentic Pinoy taste + quick delivery + affordable prices. Via Zomato, Dadding’s Kitchenette sent two of their best-selling “Special Inihaw” dishes for me to try. In this post, we’re going to tackle them head on.

Review of Dadding’s Kitchenette – Special Inihaw (Comembo, Makati City)

    Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Dadding’s service is straightforward. You either dine in the restaurant or order food for delivery. For delivery requests, the food will be delivered for free on the same day or on a specified date and time with a minimum order of PhP 350. However, for now, deliveries are available only in the areas of Makati and BGC-Taguig business district. Operation schedule is from Mondays to Fridays at 6AM-10PM and Saturdays 8AM-8PM.

Check out Dadding’s Kitchenette’s menu here:

    Food: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

    Dadding’s Special Inihaw:

The tender and juicy Chicken BBQ (approx. 300g) (PhP 80) was grilled impeccably, maintaining an even balance of well-distributed barbeque sauce that makes for a clean and enjoyable eating experience. The flavor of the marinated seasoning was full of the BBQ taste. Each bite was neat and precise. Definitely get this specialty and go heavy on rice! πŸ™‚ It’s the perfect food to bring during outings, get-togethers, and in-house events.

The Inihaw na Tilapia sa Gata (approx. 250g) (PhP 90) is a good option for pescetarians and seafood lovers. The fish was moist and mild in taste, allowing bold flavors of the coconut sauce to shine. With a nice finish of real coconut milk, the coconut sauce was creamy and a little spicy. It was made from scratch (kakang gata)β€”and not from instant food packs. I just thought adding fresh herbs and mixed vegetables to the dish will form a nice contrast and present a more aromatic combination.

    Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

On top of great food, prices of Dadding’s Kitchenette are pretty cheap as far as Filipino viands throughout the city go. They’re enough for everyone to go overboard and indulge in a meal costing less than PhP 100. The portion of each entree can be good for one to two hungry dudes to share. If there must be only two descriptions to remember about Dadding’s food, they are: simple and tasty. With that, price for value gets full stars. πŸ™‚

  • Review of NEW Hand Stretched Pizza by Pizza Hut Philippines #StretchPA

Review of NEW Hand Stretched Pizza by Pizza Hut Philippines #StretchPA

Food experts are always looking for the next big thing that will be the buzz of the industry and the top of culinary trends. That means food establishments are continuously pushing themselves onwards and upwards. And boy did Pizza Hut Philippines take it to the next level with their new hand stretched pizza, which is thinner and lighter than usual and easier to bite.

We are certainly no stranger to Pizza HutΒ as it’s one of the most trusted food chains here in the Philippines and all over the world with its wide range of delicious pizza menu. This giant pizza store has been pushing the boundaries of pizza with its stuffed crust pies, literally and figuratively. Now, doing things a little differently, it has come up with the hand stretched pizza with a burst of flavors and an abundance of toppings plus a choice of the crust glaze. Does Pizza Hut’s hand stretched pizza justify the hype? Let’s find out. πŸ™‚

Review of NEW Hand Stretched Pizza by Pizza Hut Philippines #StretchPA

    Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Pizza Hut’s “Hate Late” campaign guarantees on-time delivery service or the pizza ordered will be given for free. This advocacy toward punctuality was launched way back in 2006, and to date, Filipinos take note of the time as stated by the call handler and synchronize it to their watches. As avid customers of Pizza Hut, we are in full support of this campaign. We expected the hand stretched pizzas to be delivered at 7PM, and the delivery guy arrived at 6:52PM. Yay! πŸ˜€

    Food:Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

Thanks to Pizza Hut Philippines, we were among the first families to taste the new hand stretched pizzas. Flavors and glaze finishers can be mixed and matched, as follows:

    • Flavors: Supreme, Hawaiian Supreme, 3-Cheese, Cheesy Pepperoni, and Cheeseburger
    • Glaze Finishers: Toasted Cheddar, Honey Crunch, Toasted Parmesan, Garlic Parmesan Butter

We got the Supreme Pizza with Toasted Cheddar Glaze and the Hawaiian Supreme Pizza with Honey Crunch Glaze.

Upon opening the box, we were immediately captivated by the smell of pizza thatΒ uplifts the spirit even in the dullest of days. It’s that familiar Pizza Hut smell that brings back memories of childhood (since we have grown up with Pizza Hut), the kind that I want to keep in a smell box to be opened and inhaled when I need something to make me smile. πŸ™‚ Oh, I just love that inherent fragrance and I’m sure many people know what I’m talking about.

Pumped full of the standard gooey mozzarella, the Supreme Pizza was topped with the usual ingredients: pepperoni, mild sausage, beef, green pepper, mushrooms, and onion. The thin pizza crust that was moist enough to have a tad of a chewy texture, yet toasted to a slight crisp. The glaze on the crust had a sharp cheesy taste, definitely a must-try for cheese lovers.

Even our mouseΒ doll friends, Dodsy and Tabby, hurriedly came forward for the cheese! πŸ˜›

On the other hand, the Hawaiian Pizza consisted of ham, pineapple, and extra mozzarella cheese as toppings. Since my dad does not eat ham, we took it out and still the pizza was flavorsome with pineapple dices that helped to round off the taste. These sweet juicy cubes never fail to make the pizza well complemented. The pizza’s crust was was toasted just right and I liked that it wasn’t too hard that will leave my jaws working too hard. Its honey crunch glaze reminded me of breakfast cereals done quite well.

    Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

For only PhP 499, you get two family pizzas with flavors and glaze finishers of your choice. Delivery service is for free. I thought these pizza slices are the real deal. The new hand stretched pizzas are available from April 7, 2015 to May 9, 2015 only so eat up! Make it great by stretching your experience up to the last bite as we did. πŸ˜›

  • Review of Mrs. K’s Deco Pastries – Customized Homemade Character Buns

Review of Mrs. K’s Deco Pastries – Customized Homemade Character Buns

My parents celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary last February 21, 2015, Saturday. We hit up south of Metro Manila and had dinner at The Nest in Vivere Hotel in Alabang. It was my second time to visit the place, and again, I was awed by its elegance and romantic vibe. This restaurant at the 31st floor is really top notch! On the way, we picked up our “special gift” for our parents at the agreed meetup location with the vendorβ€”Cash and Carry Mall in Filmore Street, Makati.

This post is about a review of that “special gift.” As we wanted to surprise our parents, we did not show them what it is until we arrived at the hotel. πŸ˜† Haha. Well…suspense, suspense!

If you follow me on Instagram, you would have already known about it. Click this link to view the picture. πŸ™‚ Here’s also a quick preview:

Review of Mrs. K’s Deco Pastries – Customized Homemade Character Buns

    Service: β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†

My sister discovered Mrs. K’s Deco Pastries through Instagram. PBB Big Winner Myrtle Sarrosa shared a picture of the character siopaos sent to her, and we found them extremely adorable. We viewed more pictures posted by Mrs. K and totally fell in love with the customized buns. They actually reminded us of those character dim sum we enjoyed in Crystal Lotus Restaurant in Disneyland Hotel-Hong Kong.

Mrs. K can only be contacted via SMS, Viber, and WeChat. Strictly no calls are entertained, as revealed in her Instagram account. My sister used Viber and waited a while for a response. After a week, we finally got a reply on details on how to order, what we can request for, what the cost will be for a box of six different deco buns with different fillings, and where and when to meet up.

With the delay in response, I thought that Mrs. K should further improve its reachability and quality of customer interactions to increase customer satisfaction in the long term.

We booked our order three weeks in advance to make sure that nothing conflicts, we secure the deal 100%, and all proper arrangements will be made. The meetup time was supposedly 10AM, but because of some reason provided by Mrs. K, it was moved to 5PM.

At exactly 5PM, we were so ready to receive the package and waited in the car at the meetup place. After 15 minutes, there was no sign of Mrs. K’s Deco Pastries. I knew that making a call is a no-no, but I decided to dial the number toΒ  follow up. We were told to wait for another five minutes. Five minutes lapsed and no one showed up. I made another phone call and was asked to wait for an extended period of time. Was I being impatient? No, I’d like to think that I was just excited. 😐

After consecutive four calls, the delivery guy parked his car across us and handed the box over. We had a quick peek to check how the result looked like. Oh, thank God our waiting has paid off!

    Food: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

The deco buns we ordered were not that easy to make since the designs had to be created with multiple colors. Additionally, they’re not characters that are well known outside our home. They’re the dolls we have in bed that we hug in our sleep, namely: Talong (the eggplant), Biri (the strawberry), Cheffe (the chef-bread), Bani (the banana), Pattie (the chicken), and Tabby (the pink puffalump mouse).

My sister edited their eyes as hearts β™₯β™₯ (to show being in love) and sent the pictures to Mrs. K via Viber. This is how the customized deco buns turned out:

    OMG! Super cute!

Available fillings to choose from are: Pork Asado, Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, Choco Nutella, and Custard. Originally, we requested for five different fillings for the five characters and Choco Nutella for the sixth bun. Unfortunately, here’s what we just got instead:

    • Choco Nutella – Biri and Cheffe

    • Pork Asado – Bani and Tabby

    • Beef Teriyaki – Talong and Pattie

The reason why @mrs.ksdecopastries did not include every kind of filling we ordered was that she chose only the best selling fillings for us. Anyway, we let it pass this time. We can try the other fillings in our next order.

Mrs. K’s deco buns somehow pulled off as plump, Chinese-style steamed buns that are so tasty that you might forget your name for a minute. No additional sauce needed. After each bite, you will crave for another one immediately, so it’s a good thing that the buns’ sizes are not too small that you won’t be full.

The buns were soft and pillowy. Each was well crafted, with great flavors and a good time for your mouth. Everything was so delicate and perfect that I seriously couldn’t tell which one I liked the most.

These deco buns are great for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, snackβ€”anytime! Yes, you would want to have a taste of it. And yes, you should order way ahead of time. Build up some courage and confidence to eat these cuties because you’re going to need them. πŸ™‚

    Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

With Mrs. K’s deco pastries, the world can get a whole lot sweeter. The buns taste as good as they look and remind us of childhood feelings that are both nostalgic and hungry. Cost of each design ranges from PhP 75 to PhP 90. The buns we had were PhP 75 each. Overall, it’s a fair price to pay. With better service and faster response time, Mrs. K can dominate the “cupcakes” and “macarons” hyped scene and mark the beginning of a new era of buns coming back into style. πŸ™‚

  • Review of Terry’s Lechon (Home of Good-tasting Lechon Belly, Pata, Manok)

Review of Terry’s Lechon (Home of Good-tasting Lechon Belly, Pata, Manok)

Suckling pig, or lechon, in the Philippines is a dish that’s most celebrated and hailed as the “superstar of the dining table” in any special occasion. Whether it be a birthday party, welcoming party, despedida, fiesta or festival, lechon is almost always enjoyed by the entire family or even the whole barangay. This may be the reason why several joints specializing in boneless lechon belly nowadays become a total hit. Mabenta. πŸ™‚

One of the latest booming lechon business is Terry’s Lechon (Home of Good-tasting Lechon Belly, Pata, Manok). Starting out promoting its Facebook page just last month, Terry’s Lechon has been receiving quite a lot of orders and positive feedback already from its customers. My family and I had the small lechon belly (original) for taste-testing last week and found the flavor spot-on!

Review of Terry’s Lechon (Home of Good-tasting Lechon Belly, Pata, Manok)

    Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Overall, customer service was efficient and friendly. All questions were quickly answered. If you suddenly need lechon as a contribution for potluck lunch or dinner, Terry’s Lechon can be a lifesaver. It’s just one phone call or text message away.

For now, they accept and handle all orders a day before actual delivery. Delivery within Marikina, San Mateo, Montalban, Commonwealth Area, and Batasan Quezon City is free of charge, while outside of these areas require an additional charge of PhP 300.

    Food: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Admittedly, we didn’t expect much from Terry’s Lechon, since we know that it’s just starting to make its name in Metro Manila. Still, the question lingered. Can it impress our picky palate?

Upon opening the package containing the boneless lechon belly, we knew that the food was off the hook! Just the delicious aroma did a pretty good job in sending impulses that result in excitement and happy hormones. Terry’s Lechon’s small belly-chon (good for 4-6 pax) was seasoned with salt, herbs and spices, and a secret special ingredient that’s key to making the meat tasty even without adding finishing sauces or condiments.

Slow-cooked in the oven for four hours and marinated overnight, the boneless lechon belly was melt-in-the-mouth glorious. Topped with very crispy skin, the leaner portion was great and it gave a beautiful crackling. The suckling pig also had a right amount of fats for that juicy touch. Inside was soft, moist, and juicy. The symphony of tastes was addictive, and I don’t think anyone can resist to eat it without rice.

We didn’t finish the whole thing in one sitting. We gave away about half to our cousins and ate the leftover in the next two days. Trying the dish for the second and third time, we were a bit surprised that it was still crispy. Too good for sharing, Terry’s Lechon’s lechon belly is a must-order.

    Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

What can I say? Terry’s Lechon lives up to its name. It’s theΒ Home of Good-tasting Lechon Belly, Pata, Manok, as it claims to be. The price for value is fair. You get what you pay for and maybe more. Here’s the price list of their offerings:

    • Small Bellychon (for 4-6pax) = PhP 999
    • Big Bellychon (for 10-12pax) = PhP 1999
    • Lechon Manok = PhP 220
    • Small Lechon/CRISPY Pata = PhP 480
    • BIG Lechon/CRISPY Pata = PhP 640

If you want to get a piece of their meat, save it for the right occasion. You won’t be disappointed. πŸ™‚

My normal daily calorie intake is between 1200 to 1500 calories. Since I didn’t intend to lose weight, I ordered Yummy Diet’s 1500 Calorie Diet.

If I didn’t know that these food were diet food, I would have assumed that they’re just “normal food” for me since I’m lucky to have my mom prepare food for us like that. The difference is that while we are fed with 90% vegetarian food and seafood and maybe 10% meat at home, Yummy Diet PH strikes a good balance with vegetables, meat, seafood, poultry, fruits, and pastries/biscuits in the entire week.

I liked that Yummy Diet’s meals were not composed of those just straight out of cans but were really well thought out. Even the names of the food gave the impression that they’re like gourmet-style! (You’ll see below.) πŸ™‚

Presentation-wise, the food looked good and quite nice considering that they’re diet meals. If I were to eat with my eyes, these would be ones I’d be excited to eat.

The flavors neither tasted too bland nor overpowering. When compared against “typical food” served by mainstream restaurants though, the contrast would be apparent. However, considering that these were healthy homemade meals, they were all satisfyingly yummy, indeed!

It’s also worth to mention that the instruction label on each microwavable container was simple and easy to read. It stated with a check mark whether the food was for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and whether or not reheating was required, the food had to be chilled, or adding hot water was needed.

The portions were enough for me not to feel hunger within the day. Timing definitely played an important factor. Watching the clock, I took breakfast at 7am, morning snack and lunch at 11:30am, afternoon snack at 4:30pm, and dinner at 6:30pm. I also kept myself hydrated by drinking three gallons of water throughout the day.

I just have a concern regarding the freshness of the greens in the salads. Once the Yummy Diet food package arrives, it’s immediately placed inside the refrigerator to prevent spoilage and ensure proper food handling. So I’m not sure why the leaves turn yellowish when I open the containers at mealtime. 😐

Here’s a list of the meals sent to me last week (January 26-30, 2015). All marked with an asterisk (*) are those I liked the most.

    Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

What I regard as affordable is anything PhP 100 or less per meal per day. Taking up the 1500-calorie plan at PhP 2150 for five days equates to like PhP 430 per day or PhP 86 per meal (computed for 5 meals). I thought that’s a pretty good deal already, since I was pleased with both the food and the delivery service (not one instance when it arrived late). It’s also a plus that Yummy Diet offers FREE delivery, except to addresses in Southern Metro Manila which will incur an additional charge of Php 200 per week.

If you think that the price is still too much, I suggest creating a budget to fit your finances and put a little time aside each week to plan nutritious and realistic meals. Otherwise, diet food delivery such as Yummy Diet PH can be a sustainable way for you to eat healthy and get lean. It’s convenient, hassle-free, and time-saving. πŸ™‚

Review of The Six Pack Chef (Low Carb Diet Meal Plan)

“How to keep good health in check after eating all delicious food consumed in the holiday parties” is at the center of my mind. In this time of the year, when living the “healthy diet” is feeling out of reach, it’s great to be reminded to have a low-carb diet by The Six Pack Chef.

Chef and US-Certified Fitness Professional and Fitness Nutritionist Karl Jude Boo of The Six Pack Chef, sent me meals that he prepared with fresh and high quality ingredients. All meals, he noted, were passionately and carefully prepared from scratchβ€”nothing canned and preserved. I trust his words and I could honestly attest to that after the taste test.

Review of The Six Pack Chef (Low Carb Diet Meal Plan)

    Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

I hear lots of tardiness stories from customers of other food delivery services especially on the first day of delivery when they’re having troubles finding the location/address. The Six Pack Chef draws a good difference that highlights professionalism. Jude promised to deliver on a certain day and time, and I’m impressed that the food package did not come late. Service was fast and efficient.

The Six Pack Chef’s customer service team is available from Monday to Saturday to provideΒ  personalized assistance. Feel free to leave a message through their contact page.

    Food: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

The Six Pack Chef concerns not only on the calorie count of the food to be consumed but also the kind of quality of food, the macro-nutrient split/count and the micro-nutrient count. Unlike other meal prep service in Metro Manila, The Six Pack Chef focuses mostly on proper nutrition but still within a specific number of calories.

Provided for me to try were three meals and a power snack which completed the Project Fat Loss, a low-car diet for one day. Jude explained that “a diet is considered low-carb when the total carbohydrate intake is 0-20% of your total caloric intake. When going low-carb, it’s important to increase protein andΒ  good fats consumption when lowering carbohydrate intake to ensure that your body is provided proper amount of nutrients and immune system optimally functioning.” This also ensures that there is no crash of energy levels, performance levels are still high (even for athletes), and fat loss and not just weight loss is achieved.

Meal 1 – Devilled Eggs on a Bed of Spinach

Blending two key ingredients into one, the Devilled Eggs on a Bed of Spinach appeared like a simple affair. I had this for breakfast and I thought that the first bite was an epiphany. The Six Pack Chef didn’t mix fancy components or oddly textured garnishes into the eggs, but the dish turned out to be good. These eggs and spinach can also be likened as a nice pair for a bite-sized snack.

Meal 2 – Tenderloin Steak with Onion Jam and French Beans (Note that the portion ofΒ  food in the picture below is only half of what’s inside the actual package since I’m not used to taking bigger servings of meat in my diet. These containers are what I take with me to work for lunch.)

The tenderloin steak was tender, juicy and not dry. Clearly, it was not too cooked as I saw a bit of blood in between the cuts. The flavor was purely of beef and no other sauce or buttery condiment includedβ€”which was sad since I hoped for it to be accompanied by either one of the following: mushroom sauce, green peppercorn sauce, blue cheese sauce or red wine reduction sauce.

For a high protein and low carb diet, the exclusion of sauces and condiments must be a standard. After all, this diet is all about enhancing fat loss and muscle-building to improve health. Complementing the pieces of beef were the French beans which I enjoyed. They were crispy, fresh and tasted so green.

Meal 3 – Oat Lemon Chicken with Tomato and Eggplant Rice Pilaf

I’m sorry to report that I didn’t taste the lemon and I missed the tangy twist in the Oat Lemon Chicken. I appreciate the boneless and skinless chicken though, and I recognize its importance as an essential to any fitness and bodybuilding diet.

The Eggplant Rice Pilaf was a lovely, thick and sticky rice dish, full of satiny chunks of eggplant in rich tomato base. Adding a blob of creamy smooth yogurt to smooth it all out in the mouth may help to perk up the flavor. Then again, I’m not sure if this will contribute any good to the low-carb diet we’re trying to achieve here. πŸ™‚

Power Snack – Carrots and Celery with Cumin Mayo

This power snack was refreshing and not exactly tasteless. Brightly colored and al dente, the vegetables were crunchy and good with the cumin mayo.

    Macro-nutrient breakdown of meals:
Fat (grams): 65 (42% of your total caloric intake)
Carbs (grams): 80 (22% of your total caloric intake)
Protein (grams): 130 (36% of your total caloric intake)
    Total Calories: 1425kcal

The Six Pack Chef offers two kinds of meal plan packages:

The Project Fat Loss, inclusive of three meals and a snack, costs PhP 700/day or PhP 3500/week + delivery fee. This meal plan package is designed with the fitness enthusiast in mind. This is best for those who: do not have time to do groceries and prepare their daily/weekly meals, people who are just starting out on their fitness journey, those want to improve their overall health and body composition, want to lose body fat and are looking to change their over-all physique.

The Project Olympian, inclusive of three meals and a snack with larger servings than those of theΒ Project Fat Loss, costs PhP 950/day or PhP 4750/week + delivery fee. This meal plan package is designed with the athlete in mind and is best for those who: do not have time to do groceries and prepare their daily/weekly meals, perform high and intense levels of activities most days of the week, are athletes or hardcore gym goers, need a higher caloric and macro nutrient intake and are looking to increase lean muscle mass.

Question is if The Six Pack Chef meal packages have good value for money. I think the answer depends on the need and budget of the person. If I were to base the price value on the cost of the ingredients I’m familiar with, the taste of food and the portion, I’d say I find the price expensive.

In fairness, a good justification for the pricing is that the ingredients used are mostly organic. All of Their beef supply are grass-fed coming all the way from Bukidnon and shipped to Manila weekly. The vegetables are also organic coming from Sky Garden Organic Farm of Benguet. Another is that their servings as you may have noticed are necessarily larger than other meal services.

Elseways, The Six Pack Chef will be a hit for those who truly need to lose weight and/or gain muscle mass healthily but don’t have the luxury of time to visit the grocery store, research and decipher which food to choose and recipes to make for daily meals.

With the help of The Six Pack Chef, you can be sure that you can fulfill your fitness and health goal of becoming leaner, healthier and stronger. All you have to do is contact The Six Pack Chef (see info below) and wait until the packages come straight to your door.

The Six Pack Chef will be officially launching their service on January 12, 2015. If you want to kick-start your fitness journey, you may now start to book your slot today. πŸ™‚
