Last month, luck stroke me as I’ve won a Hey Sugar! gift certificate for eyebrow threading worth PhP 130 from Genzel’s giveaway. Yay! π I had been wanting to try this salon’s service since I first saw their branch in Lucky Chinatown Mall. But since my brows are still groomed fine by Browhaus recently, I thought it was more proper to have my sister, who had “virgin eyebrows,” make use of the GC instead. Moreover, I thought it would be nice for her to go for it last Fridayβa day just before her graduation rites at PICC’s plenary hall. The outcome? Her face looked brighter and updated in no more than 15 minutes.
Eyebrow Threading at Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon (Lucky Chinatown Mall, Binondo)
I presented the gift certificate to the receptionist upon walking in. She examined it, asked where I got it from, noted the details and called the staff to prepare for the threading service. Before entering the room, we appreciated the cute and elegant-looking atmosphere and took photos. I loved the candy colors everywhere from sunny yellows, mint, sugar pastels and touches of baby pink. The displays provided an atmosphere of girly glam, making the ambiance even more adorable.
My sister was quite nervous and in full anticipation of what she would feel during the procedure. We just kept on encouraging her, saying it won’t be an unbearable torture for sure. If I could handle the pain, then she can, too. The beautician was easy-going and fun to talk to, helping her ease her worries down.
We observed that the beautician first applied baby powder to absorb oil around the hair follicles that may cause the hairs to slip from the thread as it will be pulled. No other chemical was added so there’s no conflict or reaction to the skin. Then, she gently twisted the piece of cotton thread back and forth along the skin, creating beautifully groomed left and right brows with enhanced definition and fabulous shape.
The procedure was done very quickly. There was still the inevitable tingling sensation kind of pain that was felt in the threading session but it was okay. To minimize skin irritation, the beautician advised to not get the eyebrows in touch with water for the next six hours and not to put on beauty products in the next 24 hours. The redness caused by threading was gone after 20-30 minutes.
And now the young girl has transitioned to become a woman! The results are neat, symmetrical eyebrows. It’s great that her eyebrows didn’t look way too thin because my sister has naturally thick brows like that. We liked the straight shape/no much dramatic arch that was made (trend inspiration from Koreans).
Wrap Up
Having groomed brows definitely gave my sister more confidence to sashay across the graduation stage the next day with her head held high. π
Eyebrow threading at Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon went well. The thread used was sanitary and it was thrown away after use. What’s also good is that Hey Sugar! prices are generally more affordable than competitors’ prices. See below:
Fully Filipino-owned, Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon is a sister company of Vivere Salon and Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa. It now has several branches in the Philippines: The District in Imus, Festival Mall, SM Sta. Rosa, SM Clark, and here in Lucky Chinatown Mall, Binondo, Manila. Until October 31, 2014, you may surrender your shaver/razor or most recent waxing receipt from a competitor and get 20% discount on any hot wax service.
How nice of you to give the certificate to your sister! Looks like things turned out great for her as well!
Yup, she deserved it! It’s also a good thing to try for the first time. Now she does not have to be afraid once she hears “threading.”
I was afraid of trying threading for the longest time. One day I had a coupon for an eyebrow threading treatment and decided to try it for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised how it wasn’t painful in the least. I definitely prefer it over waxing! π
Yeah, the pain is tolerable. Waxing is a different kind of pain. It’s one that makes me scream AAAAAH! π I also prefer threading.
Great result! Your sis looked fab! I love eyebrow threading as well, sadly we don’t have any place (that i know of) in Surabaya that can do eyebrow threading yet, i can only do it whenever we’re in Jakarta which is like once a year ZZZ. Must say i’m kinda jealous they let you take pictures, salons in Indonesia esp in Surabaya still kinda stiff in their no photography rules, i hate that!
Ohh here we already have a lot of this kind of salon. I must feel lucky to be living in Manila since I’m near to these beauty centers. π Now I know that Indonesian owners/management are more strict.
I have never had my eyebrows threaded before. I usually wax mine.
I have once thought of waxing mine too but then shaving it is easier and faster. Waxing is pretty scary and I know it would hurt (hard to inflict pain on myself with those waxing strips available in Watsons). π
This was a very interesting read. I’ve never heard of such a thing. Then again, I’m a guy, so…
Haha. Hey, you know there are guys who are also conscious about the way they look and they like to also have their eyebrows groomed via threading. π
I’ve had my eyebrows threaded once. It hurt like crazy. It looked great though. LOL
Well… no pain, no gain. Haha. Eyebrow threading isn’t as painful and you don’t have to worry about your skin getting ripped off.
I so want to try this! I need to find somewhere around here that does it!
Make sure you find somewhere good though, because it can be absolutely awful if it goes wrong. Find out from other people where they get it done. π
I must say that I have never had threading done to my eyebrows. I love the way yours turned out and will have to give it a try. Yours look great. π
On behalf of my sister, THANKS. π
I’ve never had my eyebrows threaded before, but I’m very interested in the idea.
Sure. Threading is tough.. but worth it! π
Thanks for sharing this, I have heard of it before. But I really didn’t know what it was! Thanks for the pictures!
There are more and more people now who become aware of threading and its benefits. Give it a try! π
Not had this done yet but I want to .x
Great. Think of it this way… Waxing damages your skin more, threading doesn’t have to hurt the skin since the hairs are caught on the thread.
I have never had my eyebrows threaded, but I so want to! They did an amazing job!
Yeah. The procedure was really done fast. You get a crisp, detailed line and shape that is just not possible with waxing.
I’ve never gotten my eyebrows threaded before because it seems so painful! Everyone that I know who gets it done has beautiful eyebrows, though. I’ll have to try it sometime.
Cheers!
Yup, conquer your fears. π Enjoy life!
My wife talks about this all the time yet, she is chicken to do it.. i will pass this onto her to show her..
Haha. Why not accompany her to a nearby salon that offers such service? If you want to give extra encouragement, try threading yourself. It’s also okay for guys.
I’m terrible at spotting the differences… Why go through so much pain?
You will see the diff when you get closer to her face haha. It’s done for the sake of being more presentable and beautiful when smiling at the camera. π
Sounds like a great place to visit. I have always wanted to thread my eyebrows.
Nice! Expect that threading is really a little bit painful at first, but nothing unbearable.
I love getting my eyebrows threaded. It makes the shape last longer than waxing. This reminds me to make my appointment tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.
You’re welcome, Tamika. π
Threading is very convenient and gives a cleaner look. Unfortunately, threading and I don’t go well, lol. The few times I have tried it, the part where they took out the hairs get swollen. I know, it ain’t a pretty sight.
Ohh there’s a cream the staff put on afterwards. Maybe asking for it next time will help. π
I’ve never heard of that before. I wonder if it is better and easier then waxing.
I think the answer on whether it’s easier than waxing depends on who is doing and on how thick your eyebrow hair is. π
I love getting my eyebrows threaded. I love the clean and natural look after.
Yup. I also love that it lasts 2-3 weeks unlike other hair removal methods.
how sweet to let your sister use the gift certificate. She looks so happy afterwards!
Yes, very happy–“at last, it’s over!” is I think what her initial reaction was after the procedure. π
I’ve never tried eyebrow waxing before, but it looks like it turned out great on your sister!:)
Thanks. I wonder now if she would care more about her brows after this. π
Ang galing parang kumapal lalo brows and nagka-shape. Malapit lang samin itong hey sugar na to eh hindi ko alam na may branch pala sila sa lucky chinatown binondo, naghahanap ako ng place na magpapashape ng brows ko.
Ahh dito okay and service plus okay rin ang prices. π Go for it!
I remember the first time I had my eyebrow threading, happened during my debut. The gay beautician insisted to get my eyebrow done to make my face more enhance, I have to thread it. So to make the story short, I got a nice eyebrow now. Hahahahaha….
Wow! Haha that’s a great short story, a really encouraging one for those who are thinking of trying to get their eyebrows threaded for the first time.
Does it hurt? My wife could probably use this info if she happens to try this.
Yes, it does hurt, but it’s totally bearable. π Don’t be afraid as this won’t hurt you so much that you will be sent to the emergency counter of the hospital haha.
I hope they have branches in Quezon City too
Maybe they will branch out soon. I have noticed that their branches are far away from one another. They might be still testing the market since Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon is pretty much new here.
Your sister did look more refreshed after getting her eyebrows done. A lot of people still don’t believe that eyebrows make a difference, but this is proof!!
She could not believe it herself at first. π
I usually get my eyebrows plucked, but this looks like a great alternative. I’ll have to give it a try.
Some people upon trying it once don’t want to go back to plucking anymore. π
I have had waxing and threading done on my eyebrows. I found the threading to be less painful and not as much trauma to my skin. I love your sisters results. She looks very natural.
Yup, it was done in good taste. Thanks, Ann!
Great results! I’ve always wanted to try this but I prefer waxing!
Ohh maybe you’d shift into eyebrow threading once you get to try it. π
I really need to do something like this with my eyebrows. It looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, fixing your brows can make a good transformation that will last for weeks. π
I have never heard of threading before and was kinda scared to click on the post! lol. It seems like an awesome way to get your brows done though!
Haha don’t be afraid! It’s not like getting under the knife and going through surgery. π
I have seen eye brow threading near where I live and i have always thought about going in. I might just have to try it.
Go ahead and try one day. Or better yet, schedule an appointment this weekend! π
Once they invent a pay free eyebrow remover, I would be the first in line. π I have seen my friends getting their brows done and it look painful.
It is painful but I’m sure you can also handle the pain as we survived through it. π
In my whole life I’ve never heard of eyebrow threading. Kudos to you and your sister because I’d be to chicken and would probably offer it to someone else π
Haha she can’t say no. Escaping would be her last choice, if I myself had recommended her to try this service.
Great shaping to her brows in the after pic! I haven’t tried threading before, but I would like to give it a try.
Go ahead. π Threading finishes really quick and it’s not messy at all.
I’ve seen these kinds of booths at our malls and always thought they looked so neat. The downside on ours is that, more often than not, it’s not private and they’ve got an up close camera on your eyebrow so the whole thing plays out to an audience on a big screen- weird, eh?!
Congrats to your sis on the graduation!!
Whoa maybe that’s only for promotion, for others to see how great they are at threading the eyebrows. I’ve also encountered a booth like that in a mall in Singapore.
Thanks, Alysia! π
It was your sister who got the threading. I guess your eyebrows is perfect enough. =>
Haha not super perfect but I can always draw pencil on it to make it sharper. It was just my sister who needed it more. π
I never use to want to thread my eyebrows before but now that’s the only way to go! I hate the pain though!I just love the cute girly look of the salon!
We also loved the girly ambiance. I just wonder if boys would actually have the nerve to still enter this place and have the treatment here. π
Trimmed eyebrows can make a big difference! Which reminds me I need to go to salon now na!
Your sister is lucky to have you π
Yup, give yourself some “me” time you deserve.
Thanks, Mommy Pehpot! I guess we’re both lucky to have each other.
I love eyebrow threading! That looks like a nice salon!
You’re free to come by anytime! The staffs are friendly to assist you and answer any concern. π
