Color my hair at home or trust a hair professional to do it at the salon? For the past weeks, this nagging question had resounded in my head. To give you a short background, I had applied the Etude House Bubble Hair Dye in Natural Brown by myself for the first time back in April 20, 2014, and I must say I loved the color as well as the lasting power of the permanent dye.

In November, I considered performing a touch-up when the natural regrowth appeared too obvious and no, it didn’t look nice. Purchasing the same Etude House box came as first option, but this changed when I saw Metrodeal’s promotion two weeks ago: Go Glamorous with a Hair Color Coco at JY Bangs Prime Salon by Tony & Jackey SM MOA for P999 instead of P2500.

I’m deathly afraid of ruining my long locks. If I go DIY again, I wasn’t sure if I could follow the right application method advised to cover hair regrowth that will result to an even hair color (virgin, un-dyed hair vs dyed hair) and not miss any section of hair. The deal was posted in good timing as it’s an affordable and exclusive treat from Bangs by Tony and Jackey. In case you don’t know yet,Β Tony and Jackey is known for their reputation of delivering astounding results to customers that all come out with fabulously gorgeous hair from their salons.

T&J offers deals like this infrequently, so the salon’s opening P.R. in SM Mall of Asia can be deemed as an excellent incentive for “hair coloring bliss.” Ultimately, it’s their expertise and the luxurious hair coloring experience that I’d be paying for. I knew I won’t regret choosing the hair stylist’s work over my own. And it turned out I was right. πŸ™‚

Review of Bangs Prime Salon by Tony and Jackey (SM Mall of Asia, Pasay)

Ambiance: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Bangs by Tony & Jackey in SM MOA is divided in these areas: the nail and care center, the hair services section, the washing station and the reception/waiting area. With great welcoming energy, the ambiance held a relaxing vibe that was upbeat at the same time.

Modern chairs are comfortable and adjustable according to the customer’s frame and height. Walls are all white except for one with a Mall of Asia iconic globe backdrop, making the place look really clean and orderly and helping whoever goes through the door be relieved from tension of a stressful day.

This salon is equipped with bright lighting, big mirrors side by side that somehow create an illusion that one suddenly exchanges legs or body with whoever is seated across (you’ll see an example in the picture below with me and my sister) and Korean songs playing on low. Haha, tricky eh? πŸ˜›

Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Bangs by Tony and Jackey doesn’t take reservations, so I came at the peak of lunch hour thinking that other people will be out eating. Two people were on queue for a haircut, so waiting time was still acceptable. To ease boredom, there were enough stacks of magazine provided.

When it was my turn, the staff handed me a hard-bound menu of hair colors with samples of dyed artificial hair strands to choose from. My sister selected “Light Mocha Brown” for me and I said okay. Seeing the color, I expected that the change would not be drastic because this color is close if not the same as my previously dyed hair.

When asked what brand and line of products they use, the hair stylist said that for hair coloring, T&J uses Color Coco, a Korean formula that results in a total hair makeover leaving tresses shiny and vibrant and the scalp becoming healthier and vibrant. It’s what they recommend best for Asian hair.

The stylist prepared the mixture and parted my hair in equal sections before applying the color formula using a brush. The application started on the mid-shaft and dragged all the way to the ends. Only after allowing the hair color to develop for about 15-20 minutes when the stylist applied the same formula on the roots and hairline. The process took another 10 minutes before rinsing.

I felt a cooling sensation on my scalp that I can describe as similar to putting an astringent on the face. The sting wasn’t too painful and the staff informed me with assurance that it’s just normal to feel that way.

At the shampoo bowl, my hair was washed with lukewarm water, lathered and rinsed thoroughly until water ran clear. I didn’t opt in for keratin treatment in the salon because I’ve read somewhere that it washes out eventually. To tame my hair, my current hair conditioner will do for now.

The next step was blow-drying and detangling my hair into sections, which took another 10 minutes. The color had fully taken effect and we could see it vividly at this point.

The hair specialist used a flat iron to straighten my hair, trimmed the ends, and curled it a little to create volume.

When she was done, my hair was looked neat and perfect, and I totally loved it! πŸ™‚

Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Overall, I was quite satisfied with the customer service here and how the color touch-up resulted. In the hands of experienced expert hair specialists, I felt secured and safe throughout the entire procedure.

I’ve washed my hair once a day and for an entire week, and the color did not fade a bit. I hope that it would stay this way for six months or longer. The awesome promo price of PhP 999 was definitely worth the value of the hair color treatment I received.

This was my first time to get my hair treated in Bangs Prime Salon by Tony and Jackey, and I’m certain that it won’t be the last. Korean hair stylist Monica (who already knows how to speak in Filipino after staying in the Philippines for some time) worked her magic, and she did a fabulous job at it. Thank you very much!Β κ°μ‚¬ν•©λ‹ˆλ‹€! πŸ™‚

I’m really very satisfied with the outcome. My hair is still shiny and smooth even after the hair dye procedure unlike other treatments that make the hair look dry and dull. πŸ™‚

Your hair is so long and shiny! I am quite jealous. I love the catalog with all the hair colors. I recently became a REDhead and I love it. My natural color is dark brown. I like the layers they cut around your face, very pretty!

Hehe thank you! I actually thought of cutting my hair short for a change. But I also felt my long hair would be put to waste if I cut it so I decided to just play with it by hair coloring. πŸ˜› Wow, red is quite a shocking color but I bet you look stunning now with that attractive color. πŸ˜€

That salon looks so clean, light and lovely – a great place to relax and get pampered for sure! I love how your hair looks afterwards, it’s so glossy and the colour looks great on you! I’m so jealous Rochkirstin, you get to try out the BEST places! πŸ™‚

Hehe thank you! Although the new color isn’t unique, I still find it very nice on me too because it made my hair look shinier. No need for blowdries and flat irons for me! πŸ˜€

Oh, your hair is SO pretty! I love that color you chose–I’ve been thinking about getting more reddish highlights in my hair for a while, but I’m scared to how it will turn out. My natural hair color is dark like yours, so it’s good to see how the final product might look on me. It sounds like you had a great time at the salon: finding the right salon and stylist can be though, but when you do find them, it’s worth the search! πŸ™‚

Thanks Natalie! My mom has also been a great fan of dyeing her hair red/burgundy and I must say it actually looks elegant even with such color. It won’t look that bright because your hair is dark anyway unless you dye it blonde first. πŸ˜› And yes, I’m very lucky to have found a great salon especially this holiday season when pictures are always being taken. πŸ˜€

Thanks, Stacie! My sister was even trying to fool me by pointing out the yellow color for me to try. Haha But I guess it won’t go so bad with the right stylist like from T&J. And yeah, it was definitely a pampering haven to visit. πŸ˜€

They did an awesome job on your hair. The finished look was beautiful not only in color but the way it was layered with a feather look. Too cute on you. Also, I love how upscale the salon looks, totally my type of salon. I wish I was there to get my hair colored there. It’s black now but I want some cute grey streaks mixed in.

Thank you. πŸ™‚ I can’t imagine gray streaks on black hair but I think the effect will be good since gray is a highlight color along the sides of your face that helps make your face pop and give your hair dimension.

Yup, actually before buying the voucher, I visited the salon to check if there are enough good colors to choose from since the online page did not state any. They might be just offering two to five shades that won’t be up for my liking. Fortunately, there’s a ton. The service had a really good value for money.

Wow, the end result’s so pretty! The salon really did a great job! I hate going to hair salons (or anything similar like nail parlor, etc. I just find them boring!) though so i prefer my hairdresser to make a house call haha. I always get my roots done every few months, and while i love how my hair looks everytime-i also dreaded the process! The tingling and stinging sensation’s quite bad for me because i have very sensitive scalp >.<!

One thing that fears me actually is that I would have to keep on having touch-ups every time I see that there’s ugly regrowth of hair appearing like ombre effect but actually isn’t. I’ve read several people tell the story about how their hair has been damaged because of recoloring the roots too many times. 😐 Hearing from you though gave me a sudden pang of relief. I knew hair coloring requires maintenance and it sounds like you’re doing it well. Good for you, Mindy. πŸ™‚

Been wanting to try Bangs by T&J for a long time now, but haven’t had the chance to, yet. I did my own hair bleaching a while back, and been availing only service from a nearby salon (I bring my own bleaching materials and instruct them how I want the retouching to be done.) to save money, since I have to have my roots bleached every 2-3 weeks. XD

Maybe when my hair recovers from the torture I did on it, I’ll try Bangs by T&J’s perming services. ^_^

Haha whoa every 2-3 weeks of bleaching the roots? I’m quite afraid of bleaching so even though I first wanted to have my hair dyed to light ash brown, I just chose to stick with the one that’s similar to my previous shade since I’ve heard stories of hair severely damaged and dried out after bleaching. 😯 Good thing that you can maintain yours and remain pretty! Yeah I recommend this salon and I’m sure you will also be a happy customer of Bangs by T&J next time. πŸ™‚

Hihi.. Yup! That’s actually the problem with getting light or bright hair. When the roots grow, especially when it’s black, the whole head can look really ugly. Unless of course it’s the look one’s going for. XD Normally, it’s recommended to bleach the roots every 2-3 weeks or when roots grow to an inch. And yes, bleaching can cause hair to be more fragile and damaged. Mine is actually quite damaged already. Without conditioner and regular treatments, my hair can feel too rubbery when wet. >.< But give lighter hair a try when you can! πŸ™‚ I'm sure bagay sa'yo, Roch! The trick lang to still have healthier hair is to do the lightening process gradually. πŸ˜‰

      • Rochkirstin Santos

Ohh haha I don’t know if lighter hair would suit me. I guess trying out one of those apps that can show a new hairstyle or a different hair color placed with my face will give me a good judgement. πŸ™‚ My hair is also a bit rubbery when I don’t use hair conditioner, so I don’t go out of the shower area without applying my holy grail conditioner. Thanks for sharing some tips!

their services and staff are turning bad now. really they are rip off clients. they took 3000 from me for a haircut and treatment but they put really like a pea size amount of that cream, i had pixie cut take note, yet they ask me it will cost 2500. and that very small amount of cream they applied. i shouldnt have come to that salon

i had haircut and treatment at bangs prime at sm moa. and it was a rip off. i paid 2500 for a treatment and 500 for hairtcut. i really trusted them because i had a previous perm and treatment at sm manila branch. unfortunately, after Ms. L (stylist) gave me a haircut, the assistant gave me a shampoo, then the treatment, she sprayed little bit of the first treatment from a bottle unto my hair, then started brushing very little of the cream (she said its l’oreal powerdose), take note i had a pixie cut really short hair and the amount of the treatment that she applied on my hair was not even up to 2 teaspoon. i watch her carefully as she was doing it. after the treatment they washed my hair and blowdried and yet all the frizzy hair was still there, unlike my previous experience with bang tony and jackey at sm manila. i cant believe they do this to clients
