Last month, luck stroke me as I’ve won a Hey Sugar! gift certificate for eyebrow threading worth PhP 130 from Genzel’s giveaway. Yay! πŸ™‚ I had been wanting to try this salon’s service since I first saw their branch in Lucky Chinatown Mall. But since my brows are still groomed fine by Browhaus recently, I thought it was more proper to have my sister, who had “virgin eyebrows,” make use of the GC instead. Moreover, I thought it would be nice for her to go for it last Fridayβ€”a day just before her graduation rites at PICC’s plenary hall. The outcome? Her face looked brighter and updated in no more than 15 minutes.

Eyebrow Threading at Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon (Lucky Chinatown Mall, Binondo)

I presented the gift certificate to the receptionist upon walking in. She examined it, asked where I got it from, noted the details and called the staff to prepare for the threading service. Before entering the room, we appreciated the cute and elegant-looking atmosphere and took photos. I loved the candy colors everywhere from sunny yellows, mint, sugar pastels and touches of baby pink. The displays provided an atmosphere of girly glam, making the ambiance even more adorable.

My sister was quite nervous and in full anticipation of what she would feel during the procedure. We just kept on encouraging her, saying it won’t be an unbearable torture for sure. If I could handle the pain, then she can, too. The beautician was easy-going and fun to talk to, helping her ease her worries down.

We observed that the beautician first applied baby powder to absorb oil around the hair follicles that may cause the hairs to slip from the thread as it will be pulled. No other chemical was added so there’s no conflict or reaction to the skin. Then, she gently twisted the piece of cotton thread back and forth along the skin, creating beautifully groomed left and right brows with enhanced definition and fabulous shape.

The procedure was done very quickly. There was still the inevitable tingling sensation kind of pain that was felt in the threading session but it was okay. To minimize skin irritation, the beautician advised to not get the eyebrows in touch with water for the next six hours and not to put on beauty products in the next 24 hours. The redness caused by threading was gone after 20-30 minutes.

And now the young girl has transitioned to become a woman! The results are neat, symmetrical eyebrows. It’s great that her eyebrows didn’t look way too thin because my sister has naturally thick brows like that. We liked the straight shape/no much dramatic arch that was made (trend inspiration from Koreans).

Wrap Up

Having groomed brows definitely gave my sister more confidence to sashay across the graduation stage the next day with her head held high. πŸ˜›

Eyebrow threading at Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon went well. The thread used was sanitary and it was thrown away after use. What’s also good is that Hey Sugar! prices are generally more affordable than competitors’ prices. See below:

Fully Filipino-owned, Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon is a sister company of Vivere Salon and Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa. It now has several branches in the Philippines: The District in Imus, Festival Mall, SM Sta. Rosa, SM Clark, and here in Lucky Chinatown Mall, Binondo, Manila. Until October 31, 2014, you may surrender your shaver/razor or most recent waxing receipt from a competitor and get 20% discount on any hot wax service.

I was afraid of trying threading for the longest time. One day I had a coupon for an eyebrow threading treatment and decided to try it for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised how it wasn’t painful in the least. I definitely prefer it over waxing! πŸ™‚

Great result! Your sis looked fab! I love eyebrow threading as well, sadly we don’t have any place (that i know of) in Surabaya that can do eyebrow threading yet, i can only do it whenever we’re in Jakarta which is like once a year ZZZ. Must say i’m kinda jealous they let you take pictures, salons in Indonesia esp in Surabaya still kinda stiff in their no photography rules, i hate that!

Ohh here we already have a lot of this kind of salon. I must feel lucky to be living in Manila since I’m near to these beauty centers. πŸ™‚ Now I know that Indonesian owners/management are more strict.

I have never had my eyebrows threaded before. I usually wax mine.

I have once thought of waxing mine too but then shaving it is easier and faster. Waxing is pretty scary and I know it would hurt (hard to inflict pain on myself with those waxing strips available in Watsons). πŸ˜›

I’ve never gotten my eyebrows threaded before because it seems so painful! Everyone that I know who gets it done has beautiful eyebrows, though. I’ll have to try it sometime.

    Cheers!

Haha. Why not accompany her to a nearby salon that offers such service? If you want to give extra encouragement, try threading yourself. It’s also okay for guys.

You will see the diff when you get closer to her face haha. It’s done for the sake of being more presentable and beautiful when smiling at the camera. πŸ™‚

I love getting my eyebrows threaded. It makes the shape last longer than waxing. This reminds me to make my appointment tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.

Threading is very convenient and gives a cleaner look. Unfortunately, threading and I don’t go well, lol. The few times I have tried it, the part where they took out the hairs get swollen. I know, it ain’t a pretty sight.

I remember the first time I had my eyebrow threading, happened during my debut. The gay beautician insisted to get my eyebrow done to make my face more enhance, I have to thread it. So to make the story short, I got a nice eyebrow now. Hahahahaha….

Yes, it does hurt, but it’s totally bearable. πŸ™‚ Don’t be afraid as this won’t hurt you so much that you will be sent to the emergency counter of the hospital haha.

Maybe they will branch out soon. I have noticed that their branches are far away from one another. They might be still testing the market since Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon is pretty much new here.

I have had waxing and threading done on my eyebrows. I found the threading to be less painful and not as much trauma to my skin. I love your sisters results. She looks very natural.

I’ve seen these kinds of booths at our malls and always thought they looked so neat. The downside on ours is that, more often than not, it’s not private and they’ve got an up close camera on your eyebrow so the whole thing plays out to an audience on a big screen- weird, eh?!
Congrats to your sis on the graduation!!

Whoa maybe that’s only for promotion, for others to see how great they are at threading the eyebrows. I’ve also encountered a booth like that in a mall in Singapore.

      Thanks, Alysia! πŸ™‚
