Review of Petra & Pepita Encarnacion Group of Salon – Brazilian Blowout (Binondo)

Brazilian Blowout is a very popular treatment in Korean salons here in Metro Manila nowadays. Unlike regular rebonding, this hair straightening system helps to improve the condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft and smoothing the cuticle. Also unlike rebonding, the result should be not too flat but smooth and sleek without the frizz. That’s exactly why I wanted to go for it.

As I mentioned in my previous “beauty” blog post, because my work location has moved farther from home, my prep routine time is cut to half. Given this, I need to fix my makeup, my outfit, and my hair twice as fast. Combing and blow drying my thick and long hair has quite become a tedious process, so I thought that the Brazilian blowout must be the perfect solution for efficiency and convenience.

Forums and blogs from various websites made me aware that the end result of the Brazilian blowout will only last for about three to four months. A concern that’s repeatedly raised is that Brazilian-style smoothing treatments contain formalin (methylene glycol), and this can possibly make sensitive individuals experience short-term symptoms such as irritated eyes or skin, headaches, or difficulty in breathing.

After reading some more comments and reviews of salons, I decided to say yes to the process nonetheless. But what convinced me even more was that my mom had experience the treatment, and she did not feel any pain. Neither did she mention anything bad out of it. To end my curiosity and take comfort in knowing that my frizzy hair will be properly treated in style without breaking the bank, I went to Petra & Pepita (Encarnacion Group of Salon) one Saturday to give it a try.

Note: Typically, salons charge PhP 5,000-10,000 for the Brazilian blowout depending on the hair length, thickness, weight and also the formula they use. So, I was just surprised that Petra & Pepita (Encarnacion Group of Salon) offers the treatment for only PhP 1,500 (normal price regardless the hair length). What a pretty good deal! Can’t miss it.

Brazilian Blowout - Before and After Shots

Review of Petra & Pepita Encarnacion Group of Salon – Brazilian Blowout (Binondo)

Ambiance: ★★★★☆

I have been to Petra & Pepita’s branch in 999 Mall and pretty much, the interior design is consistent. Decors are not really impressive, but minimalism completes a casual vibe with a mix of purple, black, and white filling in as the common theme. This spacious salon offers a wide range of beauty treatments to suit any occasion, with sections for manicure and pedicure, hair fixes, and shampoo or blowdry. A mounted television and a pile of magazines provide enough entertainment for customers.

Service: ★★★★★

Service was okay and there’s nothing to complain about. Staffs were accommodating and efficient. I like that they take time in doing their job as necessary and not in a rush to make customers feel like they’re being pushed out of the door.

The Brazillian blowout procedure was done in two hours and there was no down time. The minute I entered the salon, my hair was washed with a clarifying shampoo and towel-dried to remove excess moisture. Next, the stylist applied the salon’s solution (no brand) through my hair from roots to ends.

After 45 minutes, he used a blow-dryer to dry my hair, as the heat from the blow-dryer helps to activate the solution and increase its effectiveness. Once my hair was entirely dry, the stylist sealed the solution into the cuticles with a flat iron. Like hair rebonding, it was during this step that the effects of the Brazilian blowout started to be more apparent. With each stroke of the flat iron, my hair has become increasingly smooth. He told me not to wash my hair in the next three days.

Price for Value: ★★★★★

Affordability is undeniably a huge plus factor when choosing salons where you want to feel like a woman and not another head of hair. Based on the service and the result, I’d say that Petra & Pepita’s Brazilian blowout is tagged at a very reasonable price. PhP 1500 is considerably cheap as compared to rates of most of the salons in Manila.

I didn’t wash my hair after three days as advised, and I feel that my hair now is more manageable and shinier with bounce. For busy and working women like me, Brazillian blowout is worth a try as it’s a good way to condition the hair while sealing the cuticle as well for enhanced color and reduced frizz.

I used to get my hair rebonded in their Tutuban branch. I like it that even when they are cheap, they get the work done. It’s only PHP1,500? That’s really cheap! I’d probably get the same treatment in their Taft branch.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yes, it’s a good price to pay if you want to straighten hair but not to the point that it looks too flat. Now two weeks after the treatment, I noticed that there’s less frizz and my hair has really become more manageable even without combing. 🙂

What kind and brand of shampoo and conditioner did you used after the treatment? Where is the exact address of the saloon? Tnx for the info.

        1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Complete address is G/F Regina Garden II Building, Reina Regente Street, City of Manila, Metro Manila.
Shampoo and conditioner brand is Nature’s Gate from Healthy Options.

I must say that your hair looks amazing after your treatment at this Salon! Price is super reasonable too. I wonder whats the secret solution to get your hair looking so shiny

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

It’s the salon solution (no particular brand). I hope it really stays put for next 10-12 weeks. 🙂

This Brazilian Blowout is so in these days. I’ve never tried it, but I’m very curious! Thanks for sharing this!

You’re welcome. This post is as well to enlighten people about the difference between hair rebonding and the Brazilian blowout. 🙂

Hi how long it will last? 😀

        1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

For me, six months…then after about two more months, I had my hair rebonded at D’ Xpert Salon in Makati. Here‘s my blog post about it.

I really would like to try this hair make-over after I heard about this. But unluckily I can’t find local salons here who offer this service.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Awww maybe you need to drive to Binondo one time to get this treatment done. Petra and Pepita has numerous branches that you can visit, too. 😉

  5. Jeypi Kyu Avatar

I remember about 2 years ago I wanted to grow my hair and try to rebond my hair.. being a guy I just wasn’t able to do so.. haha your hair just looks amazing. 🙂

  6. Erica Avatar

My revirginized hair has been untouched for almost seven years and I’m so excited about that! I wish it wasn’t too straight though.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Hehe. If you’re contented with your hair now, there may be no reason why you’d want it to be touched with chemicals. 😛 Anyway, Brazilian blowout is okay to try since the effect will only last for a short period of time.

Your hairs are looking really full of life after the treatment. Quality and texture has improved too.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Thanks, Pooja. I’m glad you noticed. 🙂

  8. phyliciamarie Avatar

Interesting. I’m usually skeptical about treatments that are crazy cheap when compared to other salons, but yours look definitely better.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yes, I’m also skeptical about promotions especially those on online deals. This is why I waited to see the result on my mom first before actually deciding. 🙂

  9. Raymond Avatar

As it’s called brazilian, what’s brazilian in there? 😀 Haha I’m sure most girls can relate to this post. And yes, I did notice the change in the before and after photo.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I’m not sure about that since I haven’t read any answers to that question either. 😛 Maybe it was introduced by the Brazilians.

  10. Tiffany Yong W.T. (tiffanyyongwt) Avatar

Oh my, the difference is huge! Although you have straight hair already, it’s the baby frizzy hair that gets tamed! How long does this actually last?

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Usually the effect lasts for 10-12 weeks. 🙂

  11. Franc Ramon Avatar

They did a great job on your hair. I think at P1,500, it’s affordable.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Thanks, Franc. That’s why the stylist deserved a tip. I don’t usually give tips but for this one I did.

  12. Dannea Avatar

Wow that’s really cheap. I should try that salon when I’m in the area. And let me just say you’ve got nice hair! 🙂

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Thanks, Dannea. Yes, the prices in this salon are really cheaper than most, but their work won’t get you upset. 😉

  13. Gil Camporazo Avatar

The model is gorgeous and lovely being treated at Salon in Binondo *Petra & Pepita’s Brazilian blowout).

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Thanks, Gil. 🙂 This place is just at a convenient distance from our place.

  14. Sunshine Kelly Avatar

Wow I love your hair effect after the Brazilian Blowout treatment. You hair now is so smooth and silky.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yes, even if I have colored hair, my hair is soft and shiny. I think it’s also a huge plus that I use natural shampoo and conditioner that has far less harsh chemicals as compared to most of the products in the supermarket.

  15. Jason Panuelos Avatar

I always pass by this place on my way to the gym. I didn’t know it was so good in terms of performance 😀

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yeah, it’s quite like your ideal salon to go to when you have a limited budget. Surprisingly, the result was not disappointing at all.

  16. Yvonne Bertoldo Avatar

P1,500 regardless of hair length? That is indeed a pretty good deal! Your photo after the treatment looks great! Do they have other branches that offer the same price? Thanks 🙂

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yes, they have several branches in Metro Manila. You can look it up on their Facebook page or website. 😉

  17. Cebuana Mom Avatar

Love their internal decor – purple! Your hair looks amazing. One can really see the difference.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I actually like the color combination here. It’s also quite seductive.

  18. Fred Avatar

The word Brazilian conjures up something different when it comes to hair, haha! Well I can clearly see the good effect on your hair in terms of how it looks. Not washing hair for three days though sounds hard to do.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yes, I know haha. It was a weekend so I tried not to do strenuous tasks to keep my hair less oily and less sticky.

  19. Fernando Lachica Avatar

Nice to know that you care for your hair as part of your beauty routine. Brazilian way of hair-caring looks great for you!

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Thanks, Fernando. It was a nice try. 🙂

  20. Hui Zi Avatar

I definitely need that for my hair! Your “before and after” is really good for us to tell the immediate results of the treatment!

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Whenever I search for reviews, I always need to check the before and after photos as well. I find that seeing the result on photo is better than just reading through the details.

  21. papaleng Avatar

Though I am not quite familiar with this Brazilian blowout, still you have said na it is offered much lower compared to other salons. Then, this is a good for ladies to try. Medyo far lang ang place.

According to the official ig acct of the brazilian blow out @bblowoutph. If the salon adviced you too not to wash your hair for thre days after the treatment, it means it’s fake.

      glaiza

just read that too. dont know which is true 🙁

    2. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Maybe it is fake. It’s quite telling because of the price and the products used. Regardless though, my hair became softer and smoother with less visible tangles afterwards. It’s been three months now and my hair is still okay.

Hi! How’s your hair now? Is it still straight? Ive tried Petra and Pepita’s rebonding and it worked for me. Just curious about their Keratin rebond. Do you know their differences?

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Actually I’ve tried their hair rebonding (milk) with keratin about three years ago and it was great. The effect lasted long so I had super straight hair but not too stiff. I didn’t need to use the comb at all. 🙂 After a while, I had my hair permed with curls at Mary Pauline and a year later, I chopped the ends off and waited some more months before having this blow-dry treatment done.

What if i had the brazilian blowout then i want to rebond my hair is that possible?

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I know people who did that also. I think it depends on the solution / formula / chemicals used by the salon. If they’re too strong, then it may not be advisable to do both at the same time.

have you tried immersing your treated hair in beach or pool? If yes, didn’t it get dry after? 🙂

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I haven’t gone to the beach or pool months after getting the treatment. I visit the beach 0-1 time/s a year. 🙂

Hi! I like the result of your hair. But I was just wondering why they asked you not to wash your hair for a couple of days wherein I read about Brazilian blowout that it’s not like rebonding that you can’t wash it for a couple of days. You can actually wash your hair and that’s the difference between rebonding and Brazilian blowout. If they asked you not to wash it for a couple of days, it’s not the real thing. Here’s one of the website that I read about:

    http://www.brazilianblowout.com/about-what-is-brazilian-blowout/
(No Down Time – leave salon and immediately wash hair, exercise, put hair in a stylish pony tail or clip without worry. )

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I have also read that article before. I think it’s also not the real thing because of the price. Anyway, I had good result and that’s all that mattered that time.

I am dissapointed in brazillian blowout of one of petra and pepita branch, particularly here in sa pablo, nagpabrazillian ako knina and the. Nishampoo ang hair ko then may inapply lang sa dulo ng hair ko na gamot, binabad ng almost an hour then blowdry at plantsa, then tapos na, ni hnd man lang plinantsa ng maayos. I wonder kung bat ganon nagpabrazillian din ako dati pero hnd ganong procedure, ung gamot sa dulo lang ng hair inapply then kahit pagplantsa hnd maayos, parang minadali. After few hours ung roots and baby hair ko balik sa pagkawavy..??

Pwede bang gumamit ng ibang brand na shampoo like sunsilk bago gamitin ang petra and pepita hair treatment na i think conditioner ito .

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I think it’s best to ask the salon staff. 🙂 For treatment, baka binababad for at least like 10 minutes before rinsing.

how much po sa hair color with brazillian blow dry?

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Php 1500 ang Brazilian blowout but not included pa ang treatment. For hair color, I think it depends if you want permanent, ombre, etc.

Was in their branch at Edsa Starmall last week to have a digital perm. It took more than 5 hours before I got it done. The result isn’t satistifying but I didn’t complain yet since it needs 3 days before washing my hair to see the real result. Then, finally the day had come. The perm was not what I’ve expected, like…OK it’s the reality. There are some part of my hair that is uncurl. The day after, I returned to the salon and got my schedule for a retouch to make it perfectly nice. But to my disappoint, after it was done, it look terrible:( the curl look dull like a failed rebonded hair…..the remaining nice part is hair that hasn’t undergone retouched. I’m really super duper sad. I only want to wear this curly hair for summer at least but i ended up wearing a rebonded look wavy hair. Huhuhu. I really don’t like complaining at any services or product at all. I feel bad for staff who did the service to me. He might get low ratings and evaluation if I keep going back to tell him the bad result of his work. Ughhhh! What will I do???? Huhuhuh…

    1. Rochkirstin Santos-Sioco Avatar

That sounds terrible! I doubt that another perm or rebonding treatment will be able to fix your problem. As an alternative, they may be able to do a good, professional type of conditioning treatment on you and send you home with some to use for a few weeks to get your hair back to being healthy again. Definitely have a different stylist in your area look at it for you in person though.
