Review of The Clubhouse (Robinsons Magnolia, New Manila, Quezon City)

It has been a year since the last time Louie and I watched a movie in Robinsons Magnolia. It could be coincidence or could be fateβ€”we again encountered a brown-out before the movie’s screening time. There seems to be something fishy going on in the mall’s power control system. Were they just testing the switch? Anyway, the movie we watched was Godzilla and it has failed to please me in all accounts. So let’s move on to the food review before this post turns to a screen rant. πŸ˜›

We had dinner in The Clubhouse. Cozied into an almost hidden spot on the ground floor of the mall (on the side of Conti’s), this restaurant is an ideal place to catch a meal or take a refresher from a crazy shopping session in Robinsons Magnolia, Quezon City. Diners thus must take better notice on the standing menu placed outside for attraction.

Review of The Clubhouse (Robinsons Magnolia, New Manila, Quezon City)

Ambiance: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

From afar, The Clubhouse did not look as spacious as it is inside. Charming and dainty, this place is a good hangout spot for friends and a small group of family to dine and relax. Designed like an artist’s den, The Clubhouse is built with beige brick walls filled with framed photos of random stuff like nature, food and still objects.

The ambiance was pretty quiet and comforting like a cafΓ©, the type that sends the message that your privacy is safe. You won’t find any loud thumping music or testosterone crazed patrons here. Instead, you’d get the impression like you’ve left the city completely.

Service: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

A pool of youngsters like ourselves, the staffs were attentive and nice. They treated customers fairly and there were no snobs in this dining room.

Food: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

We had a bundled platter consisting of The Clubhouse’s best-selling starters (PhP 475): 1/2 pound spicy buffalo wings, cheesy jalapeno poppers and onion rings served with marinara sauce, honey mustard and creamy garlic aioli. The name of the dish says it all: AWESOME THREESOME! πŸ™‚ Presentation though was standard and nothing that would make it as top of my list.

For a hearty main course, the Cheesy Chicken Parmigiana (PhP 295, lunch set) was served. It’s made with hand-breaded chicken breast fillet topped with The Clubhouse’s homemade fresh tomato sauce and gooey marinara sauce. The set also came with garlic parsley rice and buttered vegetables. Quality was mediocre. The chicken meat and the buttered veggies were hard to chew. But I have to say that the combination of the sauce and the cheese tasted great.

Price for Value: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

Price for value is considerably average. The courses we had were not overwhelmingly good that’s enough to get me excited to come back for a second visit soon (maybe if only we want to avoid the chains or fast food). The Clubhouse is mostly for a crowd interested in a relatively clean venue with value-oriented breakfast meals.

Here’s a glimpse of their breakfast menu: “Comfort Goodness All Day, Every Day”:

If only the place is not too far from my house, but since you gave the place three of five stars I’m not in a rush to dine at a new resto. Their menu kinda reminds me of Early Bird’s Breakfast Club’s menu.

They have a separate menu actually for regular meals. That other one was presented just on a short bond paper clipped to a clipboard. I thought they must have a rather neat way of presenting the menu to stimulate hunger and appetite.

The names of food on their menu are quite interesting. We’ll check out more items next time to as well justify the good in here as most people are raving about them.

Sounds like a great lil dinner/restaurant. Food looks all so good. Thanks for sharing. At least the food was better than the movie. πŸ™‚

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. Overall, this is a positive review. You’re welcome, Rebecca. πŸ˜€

What a bummer about the chicken parmigiana and vegetables but omg, those wings look delicious. Overall- it looks like a good eatery!

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yup, good observation. The chicken wings were spicy but not to the point that your tongue would go numb for the rest of the meal. πŸ˜›

I think the starter package is a good deal. I hope your second visit would be much better.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I hope so, too! The ambiance was so pleasant that I felt sorry that the food did not match that. Anyway, this restaurant deserves a second chance.

Just scrolling at that breakfast menu makes my mouth water what an awesome spot.

It’s a good discovery. They don’t have branches elsewhere so if you want to try their food, you must go to Robinsons Magnolia. πŸ™‚

I like the little table centerpieces. The Cheesy Chicken Parmigiana looks yummy. They need to get better menus. Thanks for the info!

The management will appreciate your comments for sure. Welcome! πŸ˜€

Always disappointing when a place doesn’t quite hit the mark with the most important bit – the food

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Right. We might not have had ordered the best.

The menu itself reads like a page from a torn textbook. Customers must look carefully and go through the descriptions of the entrees one by one to appreciate the deal. The context is where the culinary muscles may be found.

It looks like a neat place and the food seems delicious their curly fries remind me to jack in the box ones(my fav)

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

The fries and onion rings were really good. Even without dip, they were tasty – the perfect comfort food. πŸ™‚

The menu looks like a newspaper πŸ˜€
The place seems to have a good ambiance.
Some foods looks delicious and others are not.
This is a cute place to go because it is hidden. Like you are adventuring in nowhere place. πŸ™‚

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Haha yup! Great observations. Well, I’m dropping their veil of secrecy now by sharing our experience online. Thanks for dropping by, Joren!

I have to agree with your verdict on the chicken. We also didn’t like it. I guess it was only the cheese and the sauce that worked… btw love the color of the nail polish.. Shocking!!! Hehehe..

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Oh they should probably improve on the chicken. Hahaha funny it was only you here who noticed my nail polish and commented on it. πŸ™‚

I think this would be a good alternative to cramped fast food places as it can give you more room and less hassle.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Yeah. We rarely go into food courts because we want to try the experience of dining in a more serene restaurant. This time we hoped to find real great treats from a rather new restaurant.

Fairly often, we expect this kind of one-location restaurant to be awesome (since it’s like a flagship store). However, the reverse was true. Food came out as average.

Sorry your night was just so, so. It least you had a nice atmosphere. There will be other better nights to come!

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Thanks, Julie. πŸ™‚ My boyfriend and I just see each other once a week and yeah, at least we had a good time together anyway.

  14. Michelle F. Avatar

Looks like a nice place to sit down and eat. Hopefully they will improve their food.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

I think the owners will really strive for that because they have this restaurant for the first time so I feel they are more open and committed to improving everything based on customers’ feedback.

  15. Natalie Avatar

This looks like a great place to eat, all that food looks amazing as well.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Hehe I should have brought a better camera to take the food pictures.

I feel hungry again just after seeing your review the only sad thing to say is that the place is so far from me but with your reviews now I know some good places to eat when I get to Manila.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Hehe it’s almost sleeping time now. You should read my reviews more often during lunch and dinner time. πŸ™‚

Good service always goes far with me when it comes to restaurants. The staff can really make or break the visit way more than the food can in my opinion.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

That’s right. Awesome food but terrible staff would be a disgrace. Good thing The Clubhouse has good customer service and fair food. πŸ™‚

  19. Jhady Avatar

Oh my!! I am drooling looking at the foods. If we v happen to visit Manila, we will check this place out. I want to try their spicy buffalo wings.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

Please try their breakfast entrees and feel free to let me know how they fared for your taste. πŸ˜€

Looks pretty decent but nothing too special (based on your review) hehe. You didn’t like Godzilla? It was okay for me, what caught my eyes were the leading actor, who knew the guy from Kick Ass could clean up good like that LOL

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

The leading actor was okay and acting was fine. The overall storyline was just boring for me. πŸ˜€

  21. Yippee Daniel Avatar

The place is awesome, love that rice that look like a cup.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

      Haha that’s just usual.

  22. Sandy Sandler Avatar

Goodness this cafe looks like somewhere I would enjoy hanging out and eating. I don’t see me in QUEZON CITY anytime soon but if I do get there I know where to eat.

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

The ambiance comes with character. It’s a great place to hangout and have long conversations with friends. πŸ˜€

  23. Bhuboy Avatar

I like the ambiance the way you describe, its a great way to escape the city while still being in the city

    1. Rochkirstin Santos Avatar

There must be a list of all these places with similar ambiance. It’s the perfect cozy room to forget all worries even for a moment.

  24. Lorie Buenviaje Avatar

does it have other branch? first time to hear about The Clubhouse, looks very delicious!
