As part of our wedding preparations, we went to Subic last week for our prenup video shoot. My supportive family tagged along and they were very helpful in providing everything that we needed. I’m so glad they came with us! 🙂 After a long day, we had dinner at Meat Plus Café, a popular steakhouse in Subic offering different kinds of steaks like American Angus steak.

Meat Plus started its operation when there was still a US Naval base in Subic back in the nineties. It first became popular among many American soldiers because of their delicious char-grilled steaks. Several restaurants closed down after the US soldiers left but Meat Plus still serves the public up to this day. They even expanded in Metro Manila with another restaurant called Tender Bobs which also offers steaks and other dishes.

Review of Meat Plus Café (Subic Bay Freeport Zone)

Ambiance:

Meat Plus has a laid back vibe. It’s a casual hangout place where you can get great food without being forced to wear job interview clothes. It has a lot of space to accommodate even big groups. Upon entrance, our eyes immediately met the freezer containing steak (US Ribeye, US Sirloin, US porterhouse, US T-Bone, US Topsirloin, Beef Cubes, etc.) that can be ordered for cooking. At Meat Plus, you can also order a la carte or combo meals on the menu that’s mainly dominated by different kinds of meat. Also available are sandwiches and pasta. Orders and payment are done over the counter.

Food:

Meat Plus has no shortage of fabulous meat plates. We ordered Baby Back Ribs (PhP 315), Tenderloin Steak (PhP 315), and Oven-roasted Beef Belly (PhP 270). Eating these will make you think that elastic-waisted pants are made for this reason. Everything was hearty and flavorful. Far from dry and tasteless, our favorites are the baby back ribs and tenderloin steak. The tenderloin spurts juices wonderfully on our first bite. It’s so juicy you may want to give it a minute to settle down. Servings are generous, enough for two people to share. The salpicao, pork chops, and burgers also seem worth a try.

Price for Value:

The name won’t fool you. Meat Plus Café in Subic serves plenty of good meat with a clean taste that lets the flavors come through. I thought it’s the same as the Meat Depot in Banawe, Quezon City where you can request frozen steak to be cooked according to a certain style from rare to well done, but apparently it’s a different business altogether.

Steak is a showy dish, a luxury item with a price tag to match. With an average price range of PhP 250-Php350, dishes at Meat Plus Cafe are priced with good value. Hitting all the right notes, this restaurant deserves the spotlight as a must-try foodie destination for those who love meat.

You can always go back to Subic and try dining here next time. 🙂 The main selling point here, I guess, is that Meat Plus is a real restaurant, not just the cooked-food component of a butcher shop.

What a great business idea! Meat Plus was able to put together a meat shop and cafe in one. Last time we were in Subic was last year pa and we didn’t see this place! Tsk, tsk. We’ll be sure to visit this when we go back to Subic this month. The steak looks yummy and I wanna try it! My partner will surely appreciate it since he’s a meat lover. 🙂

Oh wow. He can totally have a good time dining here. I recommend getting the roast beef. It’s gloriously pink and juicy, as rich and beefy as you could possibly hope for, drenched in a rich jus and with extra sauce on the side.

Now THAT is a cool idea! I love the idea of selecting my on steak! We have a couple places KIND OF like this but not exactly like it. I love that it is casual as well.

Too meaty for my liking but it is a Meat plus! something like this Brazilian steak house we have in Kuala Lumpur which has all kinds of meat dishes! The men in the family and friends circle really love it and I have a feeling they will love meat plus too if given a chance!

    Food pictures are tempting!

Some people bet on the fact that once you taste meat of this quality cooked incredibly well, you’ll never want to go back to the cheap, mass-produced stuff again. They’re probably right.

I suddenly miss traveling to Subic, which I often did when I was still based in Manila. I don’t think I have tried Meat Plus Cafe. It would be a good stop next time I get to visit the Subic area.

For someone who doesn’t eat meat, I have to say that only the sides appeal to me, lol! My husband is a big meat eater so this place would definitely be up his alley!

Generally, I’m not a big meat eater, but I can fall for a steak almost every time. This is such a great idea for an eatery. I love that it has a casual atmosphere and that the price point isn’t through the roof!

Right. I’m also not a big meat eater myself. From our experience though, it’s probably accurate to call Meat Plus Cafe a well-polished restaurant for meat lovers.

The restaurant is a perfect place to eat with family or friends, but what I liked the most is that you talk a little about the history of the place, very few bloggers do it.

I think my boyfriend will love this place more than me because of all the meat dishes~ I like the brick wall display of the pantry. It’s really cozy and warm~
