Since March 6, 2012, I have been reviewing restaurants based on their ambiance, customer service, food and drinks and price for value. I always follow the standard format I made myself. I would share what made me choose to go in that certain restaurant and some back story of the establishment to make readers know more about its background if ever they consider hopping into it as well. Then I’d tell about my experience, with guiding stars for each review category.
Now, what do these stars mean? Often you see a lot of other foodies write their own descriptions and provide their own rating systems. While others use numbers (e.g. 3/5, 7/10, and so on), some use key terms such as “Good,” “Bad,” or “Average,” most, like me, indicate stars. These are all ways on comparing multiple experiences of an individual. Albeit there’s no universal or unified system for bloggers, there must be one scoring system defined for each. Here’s mine:
Food Rating System
1 star ★☆☆☆☆ = WARNING: Do not go to this place!
I have never rated any restaurant zero star. The least is I still take their effort to account and appreciate what I have been subjected to. So one star means that the item for review is completely missing the point. This is a kind and fair warning to never eat here, unless you’re doing so ironically.
2 stars ★★☆☆☆ = Just go and take the risk.
Better by one star, two stars signify that I still don’t totally suggest eating at this place but if you are passing by and have no other options, you can just try it. There’s little hope I found but you may discover a lot more of a treasure trove in this area. It’s fine and might be worth your time.
3 stars ★★★☆☆ = Satisfactory
Three stars equate to “satisfactory.” The food served in the restaurant is no joke. You can go if you’re in the mood, but don’t expect anything special. This can be your regular go-to place when you live nearby but not one you can recommend to your friends, really.
4 stars ★★★★☆ = Recommended
If you see I leave four stars for any item, you gotta trust me on this one. Eat here as often as you like! You can put this in steady rotation and even arrange dates for some special occasions.
5 stars ★★★★★ = Highly Commendable
Five stars mean perfection, no doubt. You will have no regrets to sample dishes and enjoy the experience over and over. This restaurant will make you feel great at the end of the meal, and you are absolutely welcome to share the news to your network and neighbors.
If you’re a food blogger, how would you rate food and restaurants? Do you also have the same food rating system? What are your standards?
If you’re not a food blogger but one who takes pleasure reading reviews, how would you like us to score our foodie adventures?
