About three months before our trip to Taipei, we booked a family hotel room via Agoda.com in King Lei Lei Hotel in Ximending (ε°εŒ—εΈ‚θ₯Ώι—¨η”Ί) at a discounted price. The primary reason why we chose this hotel wasΒ its close proximity toΒ many tourist places in the city. Several other satisfied guests recommend staying in this hotel because of comfort and convenience. The property is five minutes’ walk to XimendingΒ metro station, which makes it accessible for us toΒ travel to many areas easily. Below isΒ my review of King Lei Lei Hotel as a budget hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.

Review of King Lei Lei Hotel 金丽丽旅瀾(Ximending, Taipei, Taiwan)

Ambiance:Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

King Lei Lei Hotel may be an appealing option for backpackers, budget travelers, and other easygoing travelers in Taipei. It was built in 1980 and was renovated in only this year (2015). This budget hotel is nowhereΒ a trendsetter in the “artsy”Β department. Thus, those looking for a more exquisite and elegant hotel should definitely think twice. In our case, since we’reΒ out most of the timeΒ whenever we travel, we’re fine sticking just with the basics.

The “quad” room we occupied was good for four people. With two queen-size beds, a sofa, and a dresser, the room looked quite old-fashioned but itΒ was in pretty good shape. In terms of design, King Lei Lei Hotel is not really fit for a king.

The bedroom wasΒ outfitted with standard amenities, such as the electric fan, AC, telephone, mini fridge, free Wi-Fi and cable LCD TV.Β All will be fine for families who are willing to overlook a scuff or two on the wall.Β The best things about this room were that it’s relatively spacious for a family and it had a laid back atmosphere which I thought could easily win over travelers looking for a quiet, unique place to stay.

The private bathroom hadΒ a minimalist theme.Β Shower was efficient with both cold and hot water. Slippers, towels, shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste were provided.

Service:Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

I’m not sure if people at the hotel counter know how to speak and understand English because we spoke to them in Mandarin all the time. They were not so friendly but were accommodating enough to manage our requests. We asked for additional coffee, towels, and tissue paper, and we were allowed to just get the stuff from the hotel’s moving cart of toiletries and freebies without question and without added cost.

The reception area wasn’t manned at all times, but there’s a bell that guests would have to ring to call the staff’s attention.Β We didn’t encounter any problem checking in and out of the hotel. Our room was cleaned and maintained daily.

Price for Value:Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

King Lei Lei Hotel in Ximending has 22 rooms. It’s good for couples, solo travelers, families with children (both young and older), and business travelers. As a point of reference for budgeting, the double room (for two) costs USD 26.23 per night, and the quad room (for four) costs USD 44. Considering price for value, it’s a bargain. πŸ™‚ We stayed here for three nights.

The halls and the entrance did not look really nice and pleasing, but our overall experience was okay. This is a good hotel if you’re the type who stays mostly outside like us. πŸ™‚

That place sound like a great place when on a budget. I am a little far away to go there now, but if I ever get out that way I will remember this post.

We found so many hostels and inns to stay in Taipei but the space is not as large as the room we stayed in here in King Lei Lei Hotel. If you’re traveling with your family, the suite here will be enough. πŸ™‚

This budget hotel is quite decent. It’s not as charming as other hotels we stayed in, but it’s not terrible either. You can also recommend King Lei Lei Hotel to your friends. πŸ™‚

I have friends who live in Taiwan who studied abroad at my university so I have wanted to visit this location for some time now. This seems like a great hotel for travel on a budget. I agree that I do not need many of the amenities as I am usually out exploring most of the trip and not in my hotel room.

Haha, I didn’t think it’s small considering it’s a budget hotel. With two beds, one sofa, and good space for walking, the room was completely fine for the four of us. πŸ™‚

it is very neat and simple and I guess those are the strongest points of this hotel that makes it very ideal for tourists whether on budget or not..
    PS
I love the bed sheet LOL

It was so cold and we had to turn off the A/C in the middle of the night. What I like about the hotel is that there’s a cabinet intended only to stock the comforters to get you warm and make you feel more comfortable.

I find it super interesting to see what hotels look like in different parts of the world. While, as you say, this wasn’t a high end fancy hotel, it did offer everything you and your family needed for your trip, and you were close to the places you wanted to visit too.

That’s right. When choosing a hotel, I almost always make sure that the location is convenient (near the MRT, near the shopping areas, and near the restaurants). I don’t want to travel far and take so much time to reach out to places we want to visit.

This hotel looks like it would be comfortable. I do not spend a lot of time at the hotel when we travel so this would be great for me.

Taiwan is a great travel destination in Asia where you get to learn more of the Chinese culture and taste delectable food. King Lei Lei Hotel is a good option for a decent accommodation.

I’d say give this place a shot. With Taipei’s night markets and plenty of shopping areas, you would not want to spend all night sleeping in the hotel anyway. Haha. πŸ™‚

Sounds like a good hotel to stay under a small budget with all basic amenities needed as well. The pictures are good enough to explain the look & feel as well.

Sure. While King Lei Lei Hotel may not stand out in the sea of hotels because of its exterior, this is a pretty decent place to stay when on a short vacation in Taipei.

Do they have an english signboard? Is this along the main street or in an alley? Is it along Hanzhong or Changsha? Can’t seem to find it in googlemap.

Hi! Is it easy to locate and is the place safe. I saw a photo of the street entrance and it doesn’t look that much appealing. Thank you!
